A Humble Beginning

Born and raised in rural Vian, Oklahoma, John grew up in a family with limited means but with unlimited Faith.

John met his future wife, Nicole, attending church as a child. He credits his firm foundation in family and community to his humble upbringing. 

Having always felt a calling to serve, he immediately enlisted in the Marine Corps after graduating High School.

Having always felt a calling to serve, he immediately enlisted in the Marine Corps after graduating High School.

A Life of Service

John spent over two-decades in the Marine Corps. Serving in both Iraq and Afghanistan he saw firsthand the plight of tyranny backed by religious extremism. After spending nearly 14 years on Active Duty, John transferred to the Reserves and returned home to Oklahoma.

Continuing his service, John served in law enforcement both with the Sequoyah County Sheriff’s Department Drug Task Force and the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force.

In 2011, he became the first Republican in State history to be elected to House District 2. He retired from the Marine Corps in 2015.

Bennett led by his faith during his time in the State Legislature, vehemently opposing abortion and fighting tirelessly to save the lives of the unborn.

He authored legislation that passed into law mandating the recital of the Pledge of Allegiance in public schools a minimum of once per week.

He became prominent for authoring what is known as “The Ten Commandments Bill”, which allows the public display of the Ten Commandments in all government buildings, including public schools. This historic bill was signed into law on May 11, 2018.
